New Delhi. Google has launched Find My Device network for Android phones. This feature was to be launched last year. But, according to reports, it was delayed due to fear of misuse by people. Now that it has finally been launched, Google has announced it in a blog post. Let us know how this feature is different from the existing Mind My device and how it will help you in finding your lost phone.

Google has written in its blog, ‘Starting today, the new Find My Device is becoming available for Android devices around the world, starting with the US and Canada. With a new crowdsourced network of more than a billion Android devices, Find My Device can help you locate your lost Android devices and everyday items quickly and securely.

The Find My Device feature aims to help Android users locate their phones, smartwatches, earbuds and trackers even when they’re offline. The rollout is starting in the US and Canada and will soon be expanded worldwide.

Unlike the current Find My Device setting, where a device must be on and connected for it to work. The new network uses Bluetooth to detect devices that are disconnected from Wi-Fi or cellular networks. The name of this feature is Powered Off Finding. It stores the beacon in the memory of the device’s Bluetooth controller, so that it can detect supported devices even when not connected to the network. Currently, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones can be located even after the phone is turned off or the battery drains.

Google lists five ways users can locate their device using the Find My Device network:

  • Compatible Android devices can be located even if they are offline by ringing them or viewing their location on a map.
  • The Find My Device app can be used to locate items like keys or luggage via Bluetooth tracker tags made by Chipolo and Pebblebee.
  • Through Bluetooth tags, nearby objects like wallet or keys can be pinpointed using the Find nearby button.
  • Missing phones or items related to Home Nest devices can be found.
  • The accessory can be shared through the app, so others can also keep track of it.

The company also said that Find My Device network is compatible with any Android phone running Android 9 or above. Google also told users that Find My Device gives priority to network security and privacy.
