“The hackathon is being organised as a partnership between Goa Police and students, who can use their innovative thinking, technical knowledge and enthusiasm to create digital solutions to ensure effective policing and citizen safety. All Goan students, irrespective of the field they are studying in, are invited to participate in this endeavour to ensure safety in society through technological solutions for crime detection and prevention,” said Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta.
According to the police, the hackathon aims to develop cutting-edge tools that solve real-world challenges faced by law enforcement. The hackathon encourages collaboration and creativity among Goan students to support the Goa Police in addressing critical issues related to cybersecurity, traffic management, crime investigation and more.
The event, which begins at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 and runs until the same time on Sept. 29, will give students 48 hours to develop a device, with prize money included. A reward of Rs 50,000 will be given for a group of four police-related problems. Teams developing tools to solve four problems related to traffic management will be awarded a prize of Rs 25,000.
The first group will tackle issues including developing a tool for social media monitoring, artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) systems to detect and classify fraudulent online platforms, an AI-based tool to analyse religious sermons and identify radical content, an AI-based tool to assist visitors at police stations, and vulnerability assessment tools for government IT websites and mobile applications.
