Gayatri, Pushkar where Suzal The Vortex fits in the ‘Universe of Crime Threers’

Date:

When the husband-wife director pair Pushkar and Gayatri started their journey to make Suzal: The Vortex, they had no idea that an unplanned journey for a religious festival would give rise to the origin of their widely preferred Tamil series that believes in crime. ,

Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh are still from the prime video web series Suzal: The Vortex.

The pair, also known for Vikram Veda, is back with the second season of the Tamil show, which will show the return of its leading characters, Nandini (Aishwarya Rajesh) and Sakrai (Kathir).

On Suzal: Vortex Season 2

The second part will be lifted from the climax of season one, in which Nandini will stare at the uncertain future in the jail. At the same time, his friend and sub-inspector Sakkarai reaches a mysterious village with a terrible history. An unexpected murder puts a dark shadow on the village and its original inhabitants. In both seasons, crime occurs during various religious festivals.

“Crime thriller is a popular style for a long time, and a group of good shows in this space. One thing that we were about were, is that, it (our show) has to stand out, it has to be unique in a certain way. Gayatri told PTI in an interview, “Somewhere that festival angle and myth and reality were parallel.

Pushkar said that the style has changed and changed significantly, citing the example of shows such as The Wire, Broadchurch, The Killing and Easttown.

“… These are those you will call the universe of the crime thriller. As authors, it is important to know about what is happening in the world or you will be old very quickly. A crime thriller that was written in the 80s and 90s would now look very wrong because the way we see the world have changed. Therefore, as authors and filmmakers, the work you want to do is to see a lot of items. ,

How did all this begin

Suzal’s visit: Bhanwar began in 2015, but Pushkar and Gayatri did not feel satisfied with their many drafts until they first attended the Myana Kollai Festival in 2017.

“On our way back from an attendance in a college, we came to this small festival. We were brought there, but never heard it. Our driver was telling us behind it and behind the legend behind it, and somewhere, it just clicked for us, ”Gayatri said.

“We are watching it more than a cultural rather than a religious approach. Faith for us is one and two seasons one and two of two, and it is not just God or this God or that God, it can be faith in itself or your teacher, or an actor, which you make idols, “he said.

Pushkar said that it took him some time to reach the point where he felt that he had a compelling story to tell. Pushkar said, “We took it to Amazon Prime and said that we put it into development but by that time all the episodes were completely out.”

The difference between faith and crime is also going on in the second season, against the background of a new festival, Ashtakali. The show will be on prime video on 28 February.

“In season 2, in the first episode, there is a conversation between Sakkarai and Chelpa (Nandini’s lawyer and a worker), who addresses the question of faith. Pushkar said that we need to believe in the spirit of society and community and all that.

Currently, Pushkar and Gayatri are working on a feature film script that deviates from their general crime and dark-comedy styles. They are also brainstorming for the third season of Suzal: Bhanwar.

Suzhal: Vortex is produced by Brama and Sarjun KM under Volvcher films.
