Following the recent finale of its American counterpart, original ITV2 dating show Love Island UK has also crossed the finish line. Only one of them will be declared the winning couple of the Love Island UK season 11 finale. After a few past interviews and some major flashbacks, the much-anticipated result came out, with host Maya Jama commanding the scene as usual.

As the night came to a close, they finally revealed which couple had won the public’s support and the £50,000 cash prize.

Paving the way for a historic win on the set of the series, the first black couple took the lead in the Love Island UK villa, as mental health nurse Mimi Ngulube (24) and model Josh Onyinsan (29) were crowned winners of the latest season.

The two have been together ever since he arrived as a bombshell. Josh admitted he was committed to Mimi ever since he walked into the villa later in the series. “I told her when I met her, she blew me away, she was everything I expected from her, she was even more. So I didn’t need to make any other connections.” On the other hand, Mimi also expressed her love for him on her last night in the villa: “You’re attentive, kind, gentle and loving. Thank you for showing me qualities I thought were unrealistic in this day and age.”

Their collective win sparked wild celebrations on social media, especially because last week’s Love Island USA Season 6 finale ended with the victory of another Black couple — Kordell Beckham and Serena Page.

“#loveisland I can’t believe two black couples have won Love Island both USA and UK this might just be the best summer ever,” one fan of the reality TV franchise wrote on x/Twitter.

“Against all the odds, Mimi and Josh are the first black couple to win Love Island. We won. #LoveIsland,” another fan celebrated on the forum.

Although Mimi was first involved with Ayo, they both later went after Josh and Jessica respectively.

A more passionate fan, who was particularly keen to see Mimi and Josh win the title, said: “Haven’t watched a single episode of Love Island this season but I’m watching to make sure Mimi and Josh win this money.”

Falling behind the winning couple from Love Island UK season 11, Nicole Samuel and Ciaran Davies came in second place, Matilda Draper and Sean Stone came in third while Jessica Spencer and Ayo Odukoya came in fourth.

Before the finale, the islanders cast their votes for the least favourite couple, resulting in Jessie and Joey being eliminated from the show.

Although the current Love Island summer season has come to an end, fans of the British reality show need not worry, as Netflix is offering Love Is Blind UK Season 1 on August 7. While the first four episodes will arrive next Wednesday, another batch of four offerings will premiere on August 14, with the season finale set for August 21.
