The heat of June continues to wreak havoc. The torture of the heat wave is so intense since morning that people’s condition is deteriorating even if they stay outside the house for 5 minutes. Due to the effect of the scorching heat, patients with different problems are reaching hospitals. However, during this time, due to the heat, there is also a problem of the body temperature rising rapidly or fever. Body temperature reaching 101 or 102 degrees Fahrenheit or high fever may sound the same, but in this heat wave season, their treatment is not the same. According to doctors, what you are considering as fever can also be a symptom of hyperthermia or heat stroke. Let us first understand the difference between the two.
Dr. Ajay Chauhan, Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi, says that people often use a thermometer when their body gets too hot, and when the temperature goes above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, they think they have fever. However, instead of fever, it can be a symptom of hyperthermia or heat stroke due to heat wave. Let us know the difference between fever and hyperthermia.

Differentiate between fever and hyperthermia with these 3 things
Exposure to heat stress means if a person has come from a temperature above 45-46 degrees for some time and then his body becomes very hot. That is, if the body temperature increases after coming in contact with heat, then it is not fever, but hyperthermia.
. Temperature should be above 101. If the body temperature of any child or adult is between 101 to 104 or above in this scorching heat, then it is not fever. Paracetamol or Dolo etc. should not be given to him. This can be a symptom of hyperthermia i.e. heat stroke. Take cooling measures for this.
. If the patient is confused or has hallucinations or has trouble speaking, even then it is not a fever, it could be a symptom of hyperthermia or stroke.
don’t make this mistake
If the body temperature is 102 or 103 or above, then often people give paracetamol or dolo to the patient to reduce the fever immediately before taking him to the doctor. So that the patient can be taken to the doctor when the fever subsides a bit. Whereas this can prove to be the biggest mistake in this heat wave season.
Dr. Chauhan says that the thing to understand here is that the increase in body temperature due to heat in this season may not be fever but may be the initial symptom of hyperthermia i.e. heat exhaustion or heat stroke. People have to remember that in case of hyperthermia, the patient should not be given paracetamol, dolo or any fever reducing medicine. This may cause harm instead of benefit.
do this work
In the heat of June, if the body temperature of a patient is increasing, then instead of giving medicine to reduce fever, give cooling. Make the patient lie down in a cool place. It is good if there is a cooler or AC. Loosen the clothes. Place a cloth soaked in cold water or ice packs on the forehead, below all the joints of the body, armpits etc. Make arrangements to take the patient to the hospital immediately.
