Date:

New Delhi. Tata Motors has started production at its new factory in Sanand, Gujarat. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, a unit of Tata Motors, had acquired this plant from Ford India in January last year for Rs 725.7 crore. “We have successfully retrofitted the factory in the shortest period of 12 months,” Shailesh Chandra, managing director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), said in a statement. We have taken it to a new level to accommodate the wide range of existing products and new models coming in the future.

He said that this factory will play an important role in taking Tata Motors, especially TPEM, towards achieving new achievements. “Along with the existing capacity, this new facility will manufacture an additional three lakh units per year, which can be expanded to 4.2 lakh units,” Chandra said. This is the company’s second plant in Gujarat. It will produce both petrol (ICE) and electric models.

He said that it is a proud moment for us to see the first car being launched from here. We have successfully repurposed the factory in the shortest period of 12 months, taking it to a new level to accommodate a wide range of existing products and future new models.

More than 1000 people currently work in the plant. According to Tata Motors, the company will create an additional 1,000 jobs in the next three-four months as part of its plan to increase production. He said that I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Gujarat Government for its full support and to my employees, without whom this achievement would not have been possible. I am confident that this facility will play an important role in taking Tata Motors, especially TPEM, towards achieving new achievements.
