Can avoiding bathing in winter increase life span: In the harsh winter, when even the Sun God has gone on leave and winter is in full swing, then there is one task which seems to be the most difficult. But what if someone tells you that ‘by not bathing in winters or by bathing less, are you increasing your age?’ The video making this claim is going viral on social media. There could definitely be people behind this going viral who would at least be telling their family and friends by showing this video that ‘they are increasing their age by not bathing in this cold’. But is this really true? Let us explore this claim.

Shocking claim of viral video

A video is going viral on Instagram, which has been shared by Dr. Rebecca Pinto. It has been claimed in this video that not bathing in winter can increase your life expectancy by 34%. In this video she also explains the science behind her claim. It is being said in the video, ‘In winter your body constantly tries to keep itself warm. People asked questions in the comment section?

People who don’t bathe probably liked this video so much that it has received more than 6.6 million views on Instagram. However, it is not that only people taking bath are watching this video, rather it is clear from the comment section that people also have other opinions on this matter. Many people have also expressed their displeasure over sharing such baseless videos. On this video, a user wrote, ‘This is very confusing. There is no concrete evidence that supports their claim of increasing lifespan by 34%. In fact, not bathing can reduce your lifespan due to skin diseases.

According to experts, bathing is related to hygiene and it cannot be ignored. In the report of India Today, Dr. Balkrishna G. K., Head and Senior Consultant, Glinagals BGS Hospital, Bengaluru, says, “The claim that not bathing can increase life expectancy by 34 percent is exaggerated and has no strong scientific basis. However, bathing too much can damage the skin’s microbiome and natural defenses, but not bathing completely can cause hygiene problems and infections.

A skin specialist told that bathing with hot water in winter makes your skin dry. Therefore, skin moisture can be saved by bathing less, but there is no basis for the claim that not bathing will increase your age. On the contrary, there is also an opinion that bathing with hot water increases your blood circulation and gives relief to the body. This can help in digestion.

These hygiene points related to bathing are important

1. If you are bathing, avoid very hot water, as it can dry out the skin. Lookworm water is the best.
2. Clean areas like armpits and feet with a wet cloth daily.
3. Always apply a good moisturizer after bathing so that the skin remains moisturized and dryness can be avoided.
4. Always avoid using soap with hard chemicals while bathing, because they can remove natural oil from the skin. Use a mild, hydrating cleanser.
