Euro NCAP: Best selling car in India, lost its cool in crash test

Date:

New Delhi. Euro NCAP has recently conducted a crash test of the fourth generation Suzuki Swift, the results of which are out. In this crash test, this new generation hatchback of Maruti has achieved a 3-star rating. Let us tell you that this is not the Maruti Suzuki Swift that the company is selling in India, but this is the Suzuki Swift sold in the European market, which the company is selling with many other safety features.

According to Euro NCAP, the 2024 Swift has been given a three-star rating in the crash test. It scored 67 percent in adult occupant safety, 65 percent in child occupant safety, 62 percent in safety assist and 76 percent for vulnerable road users.

Safety Features of Suzuki Swift
The fourth-generation Swift available in the global market is equipped with more safety features than the Indian model. It comes with advanced safety features like ADAS including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Forward Collision Warning, which is not available on the India-spec offering. The test unit had ADAS, six airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters and seatbelt reminder. Apart from this, it also got Isofix child seat anchorage points in the second row and an ADAS suite. Notably, the passenger compartment of the car was found to be stable in the frontal offset test.

According to the Euro NCAP test, its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed adequately in detecting other vehicles. Similarly, the lane support and speed detection systems also performed well. However, its driver status monitoring system only detects driver fatigue. Swift does not have an occupant detection system, which has reduced its overall score.

It is worth noting that the Swift sold in Europe is manufactured in Japan, and hence has no relation to the Swift sold in India. However, the India-spec Swift gets some additional features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, HSA, rear parking sensors, seatbelt reminder system, speed alert system, Isofix child seat anchorage points and Suzuki Connect technology. It remains to be seen if the new Swift is tested by Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) in the coming months.

What is the price of Swift
The new Maruti Swift is offered in five variants namely Lxi, Vxi, Vxi (O), Zxi, and Zxi+. It is available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine (82 PS/112 Nm), paired to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
