The festival of Eid-ul-Azha is usually filled with joy, laughter and a variety of delicious non-vegetarian delicacies, however, indulging in too much of rich food and extravagant celebrations often leaves us feeling sluggish and overwhelmed. To kickstart a healthy lifestyle post the festivals, it is beneficial to adopt some fitness strategies to effectively detoxify and rejuvenate both your body and mind.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Subrata Das, head of the department of internal medicine and diabetes at Sakra World Hospital, Bengaluru, suggests –
1. Start your day with a drink that not only gives you energy but also detoxes your body. Drink chia seed water, warm water with flax seeds or water with honey, each of these is packed with nutrients that can boost your morning routine.
2. After the celebrations, take a break from caffeine and replace your morning coffee with herbal tea or warm lemon water, this will help flush out toxins from the body and refresh you.
3. Include a variety of raw vegetables at each meal to increase your fiber intake and support digestive health with their rich enzymes and nutrients.
4. After the festive feast, prefer simple, home-cooked meals. This way, you can control ingredients and portion sizes as well as stay away from excess salt, sugar and unhealthy fats that are often present in restaurant dishes or processed foods.
5. Exercise, be it walking, yoga or an intense workout, helps flush out toxins through sweat and improves overall health.
6. Opt for mocktails or herbal teas at social events.
7. Maintaining hydration is important to flush out toxins. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water daily and include detoxifying beverages like herbal teas, infused waters or coconut water in your routine.
