Education Ministry has urged states to take action on 22,298 YouRecognized schools till March. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, has written a letter to give recognition to these unrecognized schools or take appropriate steps.
In his letter, Sanjay Kumar highlighted that many unrecognized schools were included in the UDISE list with the condition that they comply with the Right to Education (RTE) Act within three years of its implementation in 2010. Meet the standards mandated by 2009. A decade later, 22,298 schools remain unrecognized in the UDISE list.
“Section 19 of the RTE Act states that schools which are established before the commencement of the Act and do not meet the norms shall take steps to meet the norms within three years from the date of commencement of the Act . The Act also states that if such schools fail to meet the criteria, recognition will be withdrawn and the school will cease to function. Despite these provisions, a large number of unrecognized schools continue to be in UDISE+ till date,” the secretary wrote in the letter.
Sanjay Kumar has urged the states to take action against these unrecognized schools by March 31, 2025.
Kumar’s letter said, “It is requested that the states or Union Territories may take further action to recognize these unrecognized schools and issue appropriate instructions to the concerned authorities before the date of March 31, 2025. Appropriate measures need to be taken within the time frame.”
