According to the researchers, microplastics from food containers can bite in our food and eventually make your way in our intestine. This can cause physical damage to the intestine lining, which can increase the permeability of the intestines. As a result, harmful particles can enter the bloodstream, trigger an inflammatory response that can damage the communication system and increase the risk of heart disease.

Researchers used a two-part approach. First, he examined the frequency with which more than 3,000 people in China ate with plastic takeout containers and did they have heart disease. Then, they exposed the mice to plastic chemicals in water that was boiled and put into carryout containers to extract chemicals. Researchers wrote, “Data showed that high-existing risk for plastic is significantly associated with increasing risk of heart failure.”

While in the new study, the researchers did not investigate which specific chemicals were leaching from plastic, they mentioned the hard and intestine between the common plastic compounds and heart disease and a previous link between the intestine biome and heart disease.
