Snake parasite found in women’s eyes: A layer of flesh was forming inside the eye, the woman was worried, wondering if she had developed cataract? When she went to the doctors for examination, they performed surgery and took it out, but the piece of flesh was moving. Then out of curiosity the doctors examined it and were surprised to find that it was not a piece of meat but a rare parasite.

The doctors asked the woman if she had ever eaten the flesh of a snake or any reptile? The woman replied that yes, but she had eaten it 2 years ago, after which the doctors said, ‘That means this parasite was growing in your eye for 2 years, but you did not know.’

Actually, these rare parasites are found on snakes and reptiles found in the forests of Africa, they spread to humans after eating contaminated meat. The woman was identified as 28-year-old Basankusu of Congo. However, this woman did not feel any problem with this lump.

Upon examination, doctors found moving flesh beneath the woman’s conjunctiva, the outer layer of the eye. Then they examined it closely and found a yellow C-shaped larva about 0.4 inches (10 mm) in size.

The parasite was identified as Armillifer grandis. It is usually spread to humans through contaminated food or water, accidentally eating snake eggs, or by coming into contact with infected snakes. There is a risk of infection by consuming undercooked snake meat, but the woman said that she had never consumed snakes. However, the woman told that she had eaten crocodile meat.

Doctors said that no case of Armillaifer grandis infection had been reported so far in people who ate crocodile meat. Apart from this, doctors advised that the infection can also spread from market stalls selling contaminated meat and snake meat, so stay away.
