DUSU Election Result: Raunak Khatri of Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) won. Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) President Election.
Raunak defeated Rishabh Chaudhary of ABVP by more than 1300 votes. NSUI’s Lokesh Chaudhary also won the post of Joint Secretary after seven years.
NSUI has returned to Delhi University Students Union after seven years.
RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) Bhanu Pratap Singh bagged Vice President post.
ABVP also retains its hold on the post of Secretary. At the same time, NSUI won the post of Joint Secretary.
“Under the leadership of NSUI National President Shri Varun Choudhary, NSUI has regained its position Delhi University politics after 7 years! “This victory is a testament to our unwavering commitment towards protecting the Constitution and the tireless efforts of the NSUI teams at Delhi University,” NSUI said in a post on Twitter.
NSUI further said that this is not just an election victory. “This is a victory for a student-centered campaign and a movement for justice, equality, and constitutional values. Together, we rise. Together, we fight.”
DUSU results, originally scheduled to be declared on September 28, a day after the elections, were delayed due to a Delhi High Court order.
The court had stayed the declaration of results until the distortions during the election campaign were cleared.
Twenty-one candidates were in the fray for four posts on the central panel. Eight candidates were contesting for the post of President, five for Vice President and four each for the post of Secretary and Joint Secretary.
The key players in the election are the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) and the leftist alliance All India Students Association (AISA) and students. ‘Federation of India (SFI).
There was a tough contest for the post of president between ABVP’s Rishabh Chaudhary, NSUI’s Raunak Khatri and AISA’s Saivi Gupta.
Bhanu Pratap Singh from ABVP, Yash Nandal from NSUI and Ayush Mandal from AISA are in the fray for the post of Vice President.
For the post of secretary, ABVP’s Mitravinda Karnawal was facing NSUI’s Namrata Jeff Meena and SFI’s Anamika K, while for the joint secretary post, ABVP’s Aman Kapasia was facing NSUI’s Lokesh Chaudhary and SFI’s Sneha Agarwal.
