The National Testing Agency has postponed the Shrestha (NETS) examination by a few days in view of the Lok Sabha elections. The exam which was to be held on 24th May will now be held on 11th May. The development comes days after the Election Commission announced the dates for the seven-phase election process starting from April 19.
According to an official release, the BEST or ‘Residential Education Scheme for students in higher classes in targeted areas’ provides high quality education to meritorious Scheduled Caste students in prestigious residential schools affiliated to CBSE.
“The National Entrance Test for BEST will be conducted by NTA for admission to classes 9th and 11th for Scheduled Caste students in offline mode. Where the income of the parents is less than Rs 2.5 lakh per annum…about 3,000 seats will be provided in classes 9th and 11th, fully funded by the Central Government,’ the notice said.
As per the updated examination schedule, online applications can be submitted through SHRESHTA website till 5 pm on 4th April. Relevant information can be corrected on the site till 8th April and the admit cards will be available for download (tentatively) from 6th May.
The 3-hour exam will be conducted offline on May 11 between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in English and Hindi. The results will be declared within 4 to 6 weeks of the examination.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 19, with counting of votes taking place on June 4. The subsequent phases will take place on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of elections. The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance is in the fray to come to power for the third consecutive time.
