US President Donald Trump shared an opinion article on Truth Social on Sunday, with an inverted pink triangle-a symbol that was originally used by the Nazis to identify gay men during the holocaust and was later rebuilt by the LGBTQ+ community.

Washington was symbol in the Times article

The article published in The Washington Times and on duty, the article published by the President of the veterans Jeremy Hunt criticized the LGBTQ+ Pride-centered military recruitment advertisements. The leading image in the article depicts a television screen, displaying an inverted pink triangle crossed by a red “no” symbol.

Trump shared the article without adding any comment, attracted attention to the visual element of the piece.

White house replies

Asked about Trump’s decision to share the article, White House spokesman Taylor Rogers dismissed concerns about the image, instead emphasized Trump’s record on Jewish issues.

“No President has been a great friend of Jewish community and Israel,” Rogers told Rogers told USA Today.

In response to questions about whether Trump knew about the history of the pink triangle or supported its use in the article, Rogers pointed to Trump’s previous tasks:

“President Trump signed an executive order to counter the anti-Judicism in the college complexes, cut funds for colleges that allow violence against Jewish students, fulfill their promises to delete pro-Hamas immigrants, the American and Israeli binders were taken to their families by terrorists, and the conversation on a warfare in a warfare.”

Historical reference to pink triangle

Historians and LGBTQ+ activists note that the pink triangle was originally an Nazi badge used to mark gay men in concentration camps, many of which faced especially cruel treatment before being executed. In the later decades, the LGBTQ+ community reclaimed the symbol, turning it into a symbol of pride and activism.

Trump’s anti-DEI instructions

The dispute follows Trump’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the federal agencies of Trump’s wide rollback.

  • Mention of gender and transgender community has been removed from federal websites.
  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has implemented Trump’s policies in the Pentagon, issued a instruction: “Dod… DE … no exception, name change or delay. Those who do not comply with will no longer work here.”

As Trump’s administration has eliminated DEI policies, his partition of an article characterized by the pink triangle symbol has expressed concern over the possible message against LGBTQ+ Inclusion in the Army.
