The information could be right or wrong…
Dr. Vaishya says that whenever a person wants to get information about a disease or health checkup, he first takes the help of Dr. Google. Whether that information is correct or wrong, most of the unaware people easily trust it and then do not hesitate to consider themselves equivalent to an expert. In such a situation, the question is whether Google is a reliable doctor or just a source of worry?

The benefits of Google are also not less.
Dr. Google surpasses all other sources in terms of convenience, including medical advice. It is available to you 24 hours a day. It is the fastest platform to provide a wide range of medical information about a disease, as well as symptoms and alternative treatments for the disease.

Google even helps in understanding the medical jargon that doctors usually use in their consultations. However, self-diagnosis through Google can also pose many risks.

Treatment through Google may prove costly…
In simple terms, the internet is a medium that is full of both accurate and misleading information. It is very difficult for anyone to differentiate between the two. For example, if we feel drowsy throughout the day, we use Dr. Google to find out the reason for it, which may suggest that it may be related to cancer. It may also suggest many other reasons. Practically, this situation may not apply to a healthy person. In such a situation, context matters and generalized advice may not address specific cases. This can often lead to misdiagnosis which can cause stress and anxiety in people. A minor condition or symptom may be mistaken for a serious disease by Google and may result in incorrect self-diagnosis. It is important to understand how much of a side effect it can have.

Use Google like this
Medical symptoms are often complex and subtle to understand. Google’s algorithms cannot distinguish between dangerous serious illnesses and relatively common problems, leading people to self-diagnose false diagnoses. This further aggravates the problem as patients may have to wait for a few more days before seeking personalized medical intervention.

Now also know that often the first websites that appear on your internet search can also be part of a commercial nature. In such a situation, it is important that reputable websites present on the Internet, especially those related to government health organizations or renowned medical colleges of the country, can be the best options when searching for information. You should be skeptical of sensational content or claims of ‘miracle cures’.

So Google can be a valuable resource but it cannot replace the knowledge or experience of a qualified doctor. So look on Google, search but medical intervention is a must.
