When we grow up in a chaotic home, the nervous system goes into fight or flight mode as a survival strategy. This makes us anxious and stressed all the time. “Living with multiple (chronic) traumas can become our normalcy making it difficult to identify why we are struggling today. It is surprising to many that the root cause lies in their upbringing and the work must begin there. Time often does not heal wounds when it comes to trauma,” wrote therapist Caroline Middelsdorf.
