The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions seeking cancellation and re-examination of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, saying there was no data on record to indicate systematic leak of question papers and other irregularities. Here are the developments in the case:
* February 9, 2024: National Testing Agency (NTA) released the public notice for online submission of application form for NEET-UG 2024.
* May 5: NEET-UG 2024 exam was held at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 foreign cities.
* May 17: The Supreme Court sought response of the Centre and NTA on a plea alleging irregularities in NEET-UG 2024 held on May 5.
* June 4: NEET-UG 2024 results declared, 67 candidates secure top ranks.
* June 11: Noting that the sanctity of NEET-UG 2024 has been affected, the Supreme Court sought response of the Centre and NTA on a plea seeking conduct of a fresh exam on grounds of alleged question paper leak and other malpractices.

* June 13: The Centre told the Supreme Court that it has cancelled the grace marks given to 1,563 candidates who took the NEET-UG exam for admission to MBBS and other such courses.
The Centre says they will have the option of either taking the exam again or forgoing the compensation marks given to them for loss of time.
* June 14: The Supreme Court sought response of the Centre and NTA on a plea seeking a CBI probe into allegations of question paper leak and other irregularities in NEET-UG 2024.
* June 18: The Supreme Court said that even if there was “0.001 per cent negligence” on the part of anyone in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, it should be dealt with strictly.
* June 23: Of the 1,563 candidates who were earlier given grace marks in NEET-UG, 813 appeared for the exam again, officials said.

* July 22: The Supreme Court asked the IIT-Delhi director to constitute a team of three experts who will study a particular physics question asked in the NEET-UG 2024 exam and submit a report on the correct answer by the afternoon of the next day.
* July 23: Supreme Court refuses to cancel or re-conduct NEET-UG, 2024 exam. CJI DY Chandrachud said, “There is no material to conclude that there is any irregularity or systematic violation in the result of NEET-UG 2024 exam.”
