Students of the first batch of Delhi University’s NEP 2020 will soon get the opportunity to complete one semester of their final year in a foreign university, pending the approval of the recommendations of the committee governing the initiative.
These students, who are also the first batch of the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP), have the option to undertake a semester abroad at select Foreign Higher Educational Institutions (FHEIs) under a new twinning degree arrangement introduced earlier by the University. will be. Year.
A committee constituted to determine the modalities of implementing the twinning degree system has submitted its recommendations, which will be presented to the Academic Council of the university for consideration on December 27.

As per the recommendations, undergraduate students enrolled in Delhi University from the 2022-23 academic year will be allowed to study in a foreign university during their seventh semester.
First year students will have the opportunity to study abroad during their third or fifth semester, while second year students will have the option to study abroad during their fifth or seventh semester.
Under the arrangement, students will be able to complete a semester abroad, earning a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 26 credits. Upon return, students will receive their degrees from the parent institution, Delhi University.
The twinning degree system will also be accessible to meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds. The University plans to support one or two students from this category to attend the program in a foreign university. An objective selection process will be instituted to identify these students.
The International Relations Office of the University will be responsible for initiating cooperation with foreign universities for the twinning programme, which will include negotiations on matters such as course fees, curriculum, student medical insurance, accommodation and other logistical arrangements.

An Academic Expert Committee will be constituted to review the applications of foreign universities with which twinning arrangements will be made.
The eligibility criteria for FHEIs to be considered for collaboration will include their comparable or higher ranking in global university rankings such as the QS World Rankings or the Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. Specifically, the ranking of FHEI should be 25 percent lower than the ranking of Delhi University in the same year.
If the overall ranking of FHEI does not meet this criteria, the University will consider the ranking of the specific discipline that the student wishes to study, ensuring that the ranking of the discipline is equal to or higher than that of the same discipline in Delhi University.
