The Directorate of Education (DOE) has issued new admission guidelines for special schools run by the Government of Delhi, which covers admission-level classes and classes 1 to 9 and 11. The guidelines issued in a circular date on 6 March are to streamlide the admission process for students including people with different class levels.

According to the guidelines, students who have passed the previous class from a recognized school will be admitted directly from class 6 to 9. However, out-of-school children seeking admission in class 6 will undergo an assessment to check their basic literacy and numerical skills. For students applying in classes 7 and 8 who have not studied in a recognized school, an undertaking from their parents will be sufficient for admission.

Admission to class 9 is strict for students who have passed through the previous class from a recognized school. Students transferring from feeder schools with valid documents are exempted from age criteria, the head of the schools has the discount to give exemption of six months when requested by parents.

The age limit for admission is determined according to class levels.

For admission level classes, the age limit is as follows:

Nursery: 3-7 years

Kindergarten: 4-8 years

Class 1: 5-9 years

Class 2: 6-11 years

Class 3: 7-12 years

Class 4: 8-13 years

Class 5: 9-14 years

For mid level classes, age limitations are:

Class 6: 10-16 years

Class 7: 11-17 years

Class 8: 12-18 years

Class 9: 13-19 years

For class 11, students should be between 15 and 21 years old. Admission to class 11 is available for students who have passed the Class 10 examination. Those who completed class 10 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) must have at least 50% in five subjects to choose for humanities without skill subjects, and 45% to choose humanities with skills subjects.

In the case of disabled children, additional requirements are applied, such as a disability certificate or unique disability ID (UDID) card for blind students to enter schools. Based on the IQ score, intellectual disabled students should fall from moderate to deep disability level. The DOE has also specified that the hearing-tied student will be severe for severe hearing loss (above 61 dB), but will have to undergo additional assessment such as hearing test (PTA) and IQ test.

Guidelines also emphasize priority for students living in Trans-Yamuna regions due to transport boundaries. Students with siblings in government particular schools will be preferred, while non-resident students can apply for hostel facilities if seats are available after accepting qualified Delhi students.

All admissions will be conducted online through the official DOE website-edudel.nic.in. This process will be subject to seat availability, and in cases where applications are more than the available seats, a lot of draws will be conducted.

The online registration form is designed in a simple format. It can also be filled using a smartphone. However, if any parents need support to fill it, they can contact the help desk in the nearest special school. The desk will also help parents to fill and submit online forms.
