Siddharthan was a second year Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry student. His parents have claimed that some of his college classmates told them that he was beaten to death by some local SFI leaders and activists. The father argued that as per the postmortem report, there were injuries on his son’s body and his stomach was empty, which showed that he was brutally beaten and not given anything.
Following the parents’ claims, there was a political uproar in the state as Congress and BJP accused SFI, the student wing of the ruling CPI(M), of lynching Siddharthan. The Students Federation of India (SFI) has denied the allegations.
