A farmer’s daughter, who had once failed in Class 11, has become a deputy collector after securing sixth position in the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) exam.

“I was a class topper till Class 10. However, due to pressure from relatives, I opted for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 11 even though I had no interest in these subjects and I failed in Physics,” the 27-year-old told PTI on Friday.

However, he said this was the “first and last failure” of his academic career.

Priyal secured 19th rank in the MPPSC exam in 2019 and was selected to the post of district registrar. In her next attempt in 2020, she secured 34th rank and was selected to the post of assistant commissioner in the cooperative department.

Priyal, currently posted as district registrar in Indore, secured the sixth rank in the MPPSC exam 2021, the results of which were declared on Thursday evening.

Her father is a farmer and her mother is a housewife.

Priyal, who is now aiming to become an IAS officer, says, “I come from a rural area where girls get married at a young age, but my parents did not pressure me to get married and gave me complete freedom to continue my studies.”

She said she wants to prepare for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination while working as a deputy collector in the state.

According to an official, Priyal was among the top 10 candidates selected for the post of deputy collector in the MPPSC exam 2021.

He informed that an advertisement was issued for recruitment to 290 posts under MPPSC 2021. But due to the pending case in the Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding 27 percent reservation in government jobs for Other Backward Classes (OBC), currently the selection result for 87 percent of the posts has been declared.

The official said the selection for the remaining 13 per cent posts would be announced after the court’s decision in the case.
