‘Consumption increased 2.5 times, poverty decreased’: PM Modi praised the work of his government

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said consumption increased 2.5 times during his tenure, while poverty in India fell to its lowest level. The senior politician also criticized his predecessors for failing to “trust the capabilities of Indians” and praised the “unprecedented” scale on which the country is now operating. Modi highlighted several developmental initiatives implemented by the BJP-led government and revealed that he had reviewed worthy projects Rs 17 lakh crore in the last 10 years – many of which were pending for decades.
