Civil Services Prelims 2024: The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) has released exam-day instructions for candidates appearing for the UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2024, which is scheduled to be held on June 16, 2024, at various exam centres across the country.
There are some guidelines given in the UPSC notice which candidates have to follow strictly. These guidelines are as follows:
- Candidates are required to produce a printout of their e-Admit Card at the allotted examination venue. Candidates who do not produce their e-Admit Card for verification at the allotted venue will not be allowed to appear for the examination.
- Candidates will also have to bring a photo identity card, the number of which is mentioned in the e-Admit Card, for appearing in each session of the examination.
- A candidate whose photo on the e-Admit Card is not clear or whose name and date of the photo is not mentioned on the photo, will have to bring a photo identity card and two passport size photographs (carrying his/her name and date of the photo), one for each session, along with an undertaking, to appear in the examination.
- If there is any discrepancy in the e-Admit Card, the Commission may be informed immediately by e-mail (on e-mail ID uscsp-upsc@nic.in) so that a decision can be taken.
- Also note that the entry to the examination venue will be closed 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of the examination i.e. 09.00 AM for Forenoon Session and 02.00 PM for Afternoon Session. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination venue after the entry is closed.
- Candidates should also note that they are not allowed to appear at any examination venue other than the one mentioned in the e-Admit Card.
- Candidates are not allowed to enter the examination premises with any valuables, mobile phones, smart/digital watches, other IT gadgets, books, bags etc. Candidates are advised not to bring any banned items as the invigilators at the examination venue will not make any arrangement for keeping these items in the examination venue.
- If a candidate brings any such prohibited item with him/her, he/she will have to make his/her own arrangement to keep it outside the venue and the Commission will not be responsible for any loss in this regard.
- Further, candidates will be allowed to carry only e-Admit Card, pen, pencil, identity proof, self-photocopy (as applicable) and any other items specified in the instructions on the e-Admit Card to the examination venue. No other items will be allowed inside the examination venue.
- Possession (even in switched off mode)/use of mobile phones and other electronic/communication devices or any other objectionable material (e-Admit Card, notes on paper, eraser etc.) or violation of any instructions will attract disciplinary action which may include cancellation of candidature of the candidate, filing of FIR/police complaint against the candidate, barring him from appearing in the next session/days of the examination etc. Further, the Commission may take any other appropriate action as per the provisions contained in the Examination Rules.
- Candidates are also advised to bring black ball point pen as candidates are required to fill the OMR Answer Sheet and Attendance List with black ball point pen only.
- Candidates are allowed to use normal or ordinary wrist watches inside the examination rooms/halls. However, the use of watches fitted with any special accessories used as communication devices or smart watches is strictly prohibited and candidates are not allowed to carry such watches inside the examination rooms/halls.
- Candidates who have changed their name after Matriculation by following due procedure will have to bring the e-Admit Card, Government issued Photo ID card and/or original Gazette Notification of changed name for each session of the examination.
UPSC Prelims Exam 2024: Exam Pattern
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam consists of two objective type papers carrying 400 marks.
The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam will be held in two sessions: The first session will be held from 9.30 am to 11.30 am, which will be on General Studies (GS) covering Indian Polity, Geography, History, Indian Economy, Science & Technology, Environment & Ecology and International Relations.
The second session will be the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm. It will include reasoning and analytical questions, reading comprehension questions and decision-making questions.
After the preliminary examination, UPSC will release the list of successful candidates eligible for the main examination, for which the minimum qualifying marks required is 33%.
The UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination aims to fill 1,056 vacancies in various central government services and departments, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), with 40 seats reserved for the Persons with Benchmark Disability category.
