Tickets today cost ₹99, Dheeraj Sarna explains how Sabarmati Report can benefit from Cinema Lovers’ Day, while Atul Mohan breaks down the industry analysis
It’s time for celebration for all the cinephiles as Cinema Lovers Day is back. On November 29, several cinema chains in select cities across the country will be pricing tickets for all releases 99, all day for any show. Although there are no major Hindi releases this weekend, films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Singham Again and The Sabarmati Report running in theaters are expected to benefit from it.
Sabarmati Report director Dheeraj Sarna believes that the lower price will help his film gain more popularity. He says, ‘This will definitely benefit the film. Everyone wants to watch movies and especially good thought-provoking movies. If they get a chance to watch it at a lower price, they will definitely not miss that opportunity.”
Business analyst Atul Mohan points to the benefits of the scheme for multiplex chains too: “They have found a new way post-pandemic to engage audiences. Multiplexes will have more food and beverage sales, which is ultimately theirs. They do not have to share that revenue with any manufacturer or distributor.
He adds, “When it first happened, we saw one of the best engagements of that year. It should serve as an eye-opener that people are willing to come to theatres, but the only hindrance is the high ticket prices. People prefer to watch movies in a packed auditorium rather than an empty theatre. Cinema should be celebrated every day, you don’t have to wait for a slack period to announce such proposals.”
