In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Vijayendra Reddy Muthyala, Co-founder and CEO, DrinkPrime, said, “The answer is simple: water contamination. Rainwater often carries pollutants and microorganisms from the environment into water sources, increasing the risk of water pollution significantly. So, what can you and your family do to stay disease-free this monsoon? Well, this is where a water purifier comes in! Pure drinking water has become the need of the hour as diseases increase during monsoon and water in many apartments gets contaminated.”

If you think you can easily opt for water cans and bottles, think again! Vijayendra Reddy Muthyala explains, “These options are often unsafe as we don’t know the source of the water, and when transported from one place to another, they are exposed to a number of pollutants such as sun, dust and rain. Not to mention the amount of microplastics present in these plastic water cans and bottles, which is equally dangerous for your health.”

He stressed, “For the elderly and families with young children, the importance of access to 100% safe drinking water cannot be overstated. Both of these groups are particularly vulnerable to waterborne illnesses due to their weakened immune systems, leaving them less able to fight off deadly infections. This is why it is important to always ensure access to clean drinking water to maintain their health.”

According to Vijayendra Reddy Muthyala, how pure drinking water can help prevent waterborne diseases –

Prevention of infection:

The most important benefit of drinking purified water is that it is free from harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites. These microorganisms are the primary causes of waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. Purified water eliminates these microbes, significantly reducing the risk of infection.

Improves Immunity:

Clean drinking water is essential for maintaining good health and boosting the immune system. This is especially important for children and the elderly, who are more susceptible to illnesses. By providing them with pure water, we can help strengthen their immune systems, making them less susceptible to infections.

Improves digestion:

Contaminated water can cause a variety of gastrointestinal problems, from mild stomach upset to severe cases of gastroenteritis. Drinking pure water helps maintain proper digestion and prevents stomach problems. This is especially important during the monsoon season, when the risk of contaminated water is high.

Promotes Safe Hydration:

Drinking 100% safe water promotes proper hydration, which is essential for overall health. Contaminated water can often have an unpleasant taste or odor, discouraging adequate water intake. When water is purified, it is not only safer but it also tastes better, promoting regular and adequate hydration.

So, while the monsoon season is a pleasant season to enjoy, it is important to be careful about the food and water we consume. Buying a water purifier at home is a great way to ensure clean, safe, and healthy drinking water every day, also, make sure to eat homemade food, avoid eating and drinking outside as much as possible, and carry your own water bottles to enjoy the rains safely!
