On Saturday, in Gwalior, the city’s Captain Roop Singh Cricket Stadium was packed with fans and admirers of the actor, who despite the heat reached the venue much before the actor’s arrival. And the wait was worth it as they welcomed Karthik with huge cheers, whistles, chants and fireworks.
Karthik has given a powerful punch in the trailer
In this film directed by Kabir Khan, Karthik will be seen in the role of a boxer, wrestler and soldier. It is the biopic of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar. The highlight of the trailer is the way it shows Kartik’s journey and various stages in the reel and real life. The actor has undergone physical transformation for the character. Chandu Champion is the story of a man who dreams of becoming a champion. To hone his skills to represent India in the Olympics, he joins the army. This is how his journey begins.
The trailer begins with a scene of Karthik waking up with Chandu two years after being injured in the war in 1967. After that, the clip takes the audience on an emotional journey. It depicts a scene where young Chandu tells his school teacher that he wants to become a wrestler, his classmates make fun of him and tease him with the comment ‘Chandu is the champion’. That name stays with him. It shows the journey of his fight and challenge to erase that name from his life.
The trailer is filled with many emotional moments, including larger-than-life scenes.
The program must go on
Reflecting the film’s never-say-die spirit, Kartik launched the film’s trailer on Saturday, just days after his relatives died after a hoarding collapse in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar.
Karthik’s relatives Manoj Chansoria and Anita Chansoria were among the 16 people who died in the tragic hoarding collapse in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area on Monday. He also attended the funerals of his relatives.
Just days after the personal tragedy, Kartik attended the event along with Kabir and producer Sajid Nadiadwala. When asked at the trailer launch how he felt coming to his hometown, he said, “It is a dream come true moment for me. This is where I dreamed of becoming an actor and to bring the most difficult film of my career here is incredibly special.”
“How am I feeling mentally? Khaif kuch chal raha hai meri life mein (a lot is going on in life) but the show must go on. I’m very fortunate that you all could join us here for the trailer launch of the film,” he told the crowd as they clapped for him.
2021 Following the release of Ranveer Singh starrer 83, which is based on the Indian cricket team’s victory in the 1983 World Cup in England, Kabir announced Chandu Champion. This film is also based on a true story. It is based on the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist Murlikant Petkar, who won the gold medal at the 1972 Summer Paralympics in Germany.
Earlier, while sharing the poster of the film, Kabir had written, “The story of ‘Chandu Champion’ is an incredibly inspiring true story but the journey Karthik took to become this champion is no less inspiring. I met him when he gained weight for a role. His body fat was 39 percent. I told him that he had to play the character of an international level multidisciplinary player. He just smiled and said, “I will do it sir”. After a year and a half of not using steroids – something he was adamant about – we took this photo on set. Body fat 7 percent!! I am proud of you.”
Jointly produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan, the film will release on the big screens on June 14.
