The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2024 conducted by IIM Calcutta is being conducted today, November 24, 2024, in three different slots. This year the questions were a bit tricky as compared to last year. Two additional questions were added to the DILR section, increasing it to 68 questions from 66 questions last year. The time limit of the exam remained 120 minutes and 40 minutes were allotted for each section.

Gautam Puri, Co-Founder and MD, Career Launcher, said, the difficulty level of CAT 2024 – Slot 1 was tougher than the CAT 2023 paper. “The overall difficulty level of this year’s exam was higher than the first slot of CAT 2023. Section-wise difficulty level for VARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension) section was easy in difficulty level, DILR (Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning) was between easy to moderate and QA (Quantitative Ability) was moderate in difficulty level. ,” He further said that the QA section proved to be more challenging this year.

Ramnath Kanakadandi, senior curriculum director, TIME, said, “The only surprise in the exam was that the number of questions increased marginally to 68 (last year there were 66 questions). ‘This increase has been made by adding two more questions in the DILR section.’

In the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section, the questions were on the same lines as seen in the previous three CAT exams. Kanakadandi said the questions were on Reading Comprehension, Paragraph Odd One Out, Paragraph Summary and Sentence Placement.

Bhushan Bapat, academic head of CAT division at Supergrads, TopRankers, says Slot 1 of the CAT 2024 exam was easier than last year. “The VARC section was moderate, DILR was manageable, and QA was also moderate. The students responded positively to the exam, feeling a little surprised. Overall, the difficulty was moderate, and a higher cutoff can be expected this year.”
