Working for long hours can have a huge impact on health. This can increase the risk of chronic diseases and may also increase the risk of stroke. Negative effects of working long hours on health:
“Long working hours can have a negative impact on health in two main ways. First, they can trigger harmful behavioral responses, such as cigarette smoking, excess alcohol consumption, unhealthy eating habits, physical inactivity, and poor sleep quality. Second, chronic psychosocial stress caused by working long hours can lead to excessive secretion of stress hormones, resulting in increased blood pressure and blockage of blood vessels,” said Dr Srinivas Raju.

How to deal with the risk of stroke?
Dr. Srinivas Raju lists some preventive measures that can help us reduce the risk of stroke associated with working for long hours.
Choose healthy food and drinks:Prioritize a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, while avoiding foods rich in saturated fat, trans fat and cholesterol. Limiting salt intake is also important to maintain healthy blood pressure levels.
weight management: Maintaining a healthy weight is important, as overweight and obesity increase the risk of stroke. Consult your doctor for personalized advice on weight management.
physical activity: Aim to get at least 45 minutes of moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, several times a week. Regular physical activity strengthens the heart and improves overall health.
quit smoking: Quitting smoking is one of the most effective steps you can take to reduce your risk of stroke.
limit alcohol consumption: Keeping alcohol consumption in moderation can help protect your cardiovascular health.
control medical problems: It is essential to effectively manage chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.
follow medication: Make sure you take prescribed medicines regularly to manage existing health problems effectively.
