BYD Atto 3’s affordable base variant launched in India, has a range of 468 km, rest of the features are strong

Date:

New Delhi. BYD has launched two more trims for its Atto 3 electric SUV – Dynamic and Premium, which were earlier available only in its fully loaded superior version. The price of the Dynamic trim is Rs 24.99 lakh, but the company has not yet disclosed the prices of other trims. Let us tell you that the price of Atto 3 was earlier Rs 33.99 lakh. The special thing is that the new base trim has a smaller battery and fewer features, which makes its price even more competitive.

The biggest change in the new Dynamic trim is mechanical. It gets a new 49.92kWh battery with an ARAI range of 468km. The Premium and Superior trims get a larger 60.48kWh battery that was originally offered in the Atto 3 with an ARAI range of 521km. All three trims get a single rear-axle electric motor that produces 204hp and 310Nm of torque.

The Atto 3 battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes using a DC fast charger. When using an AC charger, the smaller battery takes 8 hours to fully charge and the larger battery takes about 10 hours. The company is providing a 7kW home charger and a 3kW portable charging box.

Features of BYD Atto 3

The new entry-level trims naturally miss out on some of the features available on the top-spec Superior trim. The mid-spec Premium trim misses out on the ADAS suite and adaptive LED headlights. The base Dynamic trim misses out on the powered tailgate, 8-speaker sound system, multi-colour ambient lighting. The Dynamic trim also gets smaller 17-inch wheels. BYD has also introduced a new Cosmos Black colour shade for the all-electric SUV.

All trims get features like a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control and powered front seats. Safety features include a 360-degree camera, 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program and TPMS.

Until now, the Atto 3 had no direct competitors, with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 having a more premium positioning and the MG ZS EV being more affordable. But now, the entry-level variants of the Atto 3 are better positioned as rivals to the ZS EV, which gets a 50.3kWh battery pack, a claimed range of 461km and is priced between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.44 lakh, ex-showroom. The Atto 3 will also face competition from upcoming EVs like the Hyundai Creta EV and the Maruti eVX. All prices mentioned above are ex-showroom prices.
