Voting had a slow start in the by-elections held on November 20 for 15 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Uttarakhand.
By-elections in UP
According to the Election Commission’s 9 am update, the average voting on all seats in UP was 9.67 percent.
There are by-elections in Katehari, Karhal, Mirapur, Ghaziabad, Majhwan, Sisamau, Khair, Phulpur and Kundarki in Uttar Pradesh.
In another EC update at 9.30 am, voting was witnessed in Ghaziabad (5.36 per cent), Katehari (11.48 per cent), Khair (9.03 per cent), Kundarki (13.59 per cent), Karhal (9.67 per cent), Mazhawan (10.55 per cent). percent), Meerapur (13.01 percent), Phulpur (8.83 percent), Sisamau (5.73 percent).
A total of 90 candidates are contesting in these constituencies, of which Ghaziabad has the highest number of 14 candidates. There are 34,35,974 registered voters in the state, including 18,46,846 males, 15,88,967 females and 161 third gender voters. , Ghaziabad has the largest voter base, while Sisamau has the least.
This is the first electoral challenge for the India Bloc and the NDA in the politically important state after the Lok Sabha elections.
By-elections in Punjab
In Punjab, voters from four constituencies – Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal (SC), and Barnala – are casting their votes.
More than eight percent voting was recorded in the first two hours of voting in the by-elections held for four assembly constituencies in Punjab on Wednesday, officials said.
By-elections in Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Barnala assembly constituencies had become necessary after the sitting MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha.
He said that till 9 am, 8.53 percent voting was recorded.
There was 13.1 percent voting in Gidderbaha seat, 9.7 percent in Dera Baba Nanak, 6.9 percent in Barnala and 4.15 percent in Chabbewal.
The by-elections were prompted by the fact that MLAs representing these constituencies were elected to the Lok Sabha during the general elections earlier this year.
45 candidates including three women are in the fray. A total of 6.96 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.
The bypolls will decide the fate of key contestants, including BJP nominee and former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Congress’s Amrita Warring, Jatinder Kaur, AAP’s Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, Dr Ishank Kumar Chabbewal and BJP’s Kewal Singh Dhillon, Sohan Singh Thandal and Ravikaran. Singh Kahlon.
Amrita Waring is the wife of Punjab Congress chief and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Waring. Jatinder Kaur is the wife of Gurdaspur MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
By-elections in Kerala and Uttarakhand
Apart from Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, by-elections are also being held in Palakkad seat of Kerala and Kedarnath seat of Uttarakhand.
According to the data released by the Election Commission, in the first hour of voting in Kerala’s Palakkad Assembly by-election, the turnout was 1.11 percent at 8 am, which increased to 6.76 percent by 8.30 am. People started arriving early in the morning at 184 polling stations across the constituency, which has over 1.9 lakh voters who will cast their votes to elect a representative from 10 candidates.
