The Bihar government issued a gazette following the Supreme Court order, including the Tanti-Tatva caste in the “Extremely Backward Class” category.
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has delayed the declaration of TRE 3 exam results, citing complexities related to caste classification. The delay is due to the recent Supreme Court verdict re-classifying the Tanti-Tattva caste, affecting the eligibility of many candidates.
On August 12, the Bihar government issued a gazette following a Supreme Court order that included the Tanti-Tattva caste in the “extremely backward class” category instead of the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, as it was listed earlier. This change affects applicants who originally applied under the SC quota but will now have to re-apply under the EBC category.
As a result, BPSC has directed the Tanti-Tatva candidates to correct their online applications to reflect the new classification. The result declaration is expected to be delayed by up to a month due to the adjustment process, causing anxiety among students awaiting their results.
Background of Tanti-Tatva caste issue
The Bihar government had granted Scheduled Caste (SC) status to the Tanti-Tatva caste on July 2, 2015, enabling its members to avail SC category reservation in government jobs. The decision was challenged in court by Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Vichar Manch, Patna. Though the high court upheld the state’s decision, an appeal was filed in the Supreme Court.
After extensive hearings, the Supreme Court delivered a verdict on July 15, 2024, excluding the Tanti-Tatva caste from the SC category. The verdict affects new appointments, but does not change any previous recruitments or reservations already granted. The Supreme Court’s verdict comes after a similar verdict related to the Lohar caste, which was removed from the SC list.
Instructions for correcting TRE 3.0 application forms
Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has issued new guidelines for Tanti-Tatva caste candidates to correct their TRE 3.0 exam application form. As per the latest communication from BPSC, candidates have to log in to their existing online application using their existing username and password.
After logging in, candidates have to update their reservation category from SC to EBC and upload the exemption certificate. The correction process must be completed between September 2 and September 23.
Failure to make these changes and submit the required documents within the specified time limit will result in forfeiture of reservation benefits, and BPSC’s decision on candidature will be final.
Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) had earlier planned to release the results of TRE 3 exam by the end of this month. The commission has put the preparation of the result on hold till the TRE-3 candidates complete the necessary corrections in their applications by September 23. The date for releasing the revised result will be decided after this period.
This delay is expected to affect the declaration of results for primary to higher secondary exams as well as for headmaster and principal posts. Additionally, the release of the TRE 4 advertisement may also be postponed.
