The re-examination will be held on January 4 at some other center in the city and around 12,000 candidates are likely to appear for it.
Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Chairman Parmar Ravi Manubhai on Tuesday refused to cancel the 70th Integrated Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024 held earlier this month, which was mired in question paper leak allegations.
However, he made it clear that BPSC is going ahead with the re-examination of the candidates who were appointed on December 13 at the Bapu Examination Complex examination center and revealed that the re-examination will be conducted on January 4, 2025.
BPSC had recently canceled its CCE preliminary exam held at the Bapu Examination Complex in Patna’s Kumhrar area, where an officer on duty died of a heart attack on December 13 following a ruckus created by “unruly” candidates. Death had occurred.
“There is no question of cancellation of the entire BPSC examination held on 13th December. BPSC has canceled its preliminary examination held only at Bapu Examination Complex Center due to the disruption caused by a group of unruly candidates as part of a conspiracy to disrupt the examination. “Decided to do so,” the BPSC chairman told PTI on Tuesday.
He said the re-examination will be held on January 4 at some other center in the city and around 12,000 candidates are likely to appear for it.
BPSC has also served show cause notices to 34 candidates who were allegedly part of the disturbance that broke out at the Bapu Examination Complex center on December 13.
“All 34 students have been asked to respond to the show cause notice by December 26. The Commission will scrutinize their responses and then take an appropriate decision. In case of those who fail to submit their responses, the Commission will, on the basis of available evidence, Will take a decision on that basis,” the BPSC chairman said.
A group of candidates is demanding cancellation of the entire examination held on December 13 across the state.
They have been sitting on strike in Gardnibagh for the last four-five days.
The protesters argue that cancellation of exams across the board should be ordered as conducting re-exams just for one center would be against the principle of a “level playing field”.
Meanwhile, Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh visited the protest site on Tuesday and announced his support to the movement.
“The demands of the protesting candidates are legitimate,” Singh told reporters.
Earlier, independent MP from Purnia Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav had visited the incident site on Monday and came out in support.
The Patna district administration had said that most of the protesters demanding cancellation of the December 13 examination in Gardanibagh were non-examinees.
On Monday evening, some of them reportedly entered Gardnibagh Hospital, “harassing medical staff and damaging property”.
Three people involved in the protest – Rahul Kumar (32) of East Champaran, Ashutosh Anand (35) of Vaishali and Sujeet alias Tsunami Guru (40) – are currently undergoing treatment at the PMCH.
Patna-based tutor and YouTuber Khan Sir, who came out in support of the movement, also met the candidates admitted in PMCH on Tuesday.
Patna DM had said on Monday, “The protest is being led by non-candidates who are trying to mislead the genuine candidates for political reasons.”
The DM had said, “Some coaching institutes also appear to be behind the protests with baseless and provocative statements aimed at creating law and order problems. All are being identified for strict action.”
Meanwhile, Patna Police arrested two people for allegedly creating chaos during the BPSC preliminary examination held at Bapu Examination Complex on December 13.
“A case was registered at the Agamkuan police station on December 14 in connection with the disturbance caused by some examinees during the BPSC examination. On the basis of technical investigation and CCTV footage from 11 cameras at the centre, we have identified Ashwini Kumar and Mohammed Faiyaz. And arrested him.” Patna Superintendent of Police (SP) Shubhank Mishra gave this information to the reporters.
The SP said that in the footage the two were clearly seen walking out of the examination hall with question papers and spreading rumors about the exam being canceled while encouraging others not to submit the papers.
The police have also issued show cause notices to people associated with coaching institutes for instigating the candidates who were protesting at Gardanibagh police station.
