BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad, Tarun Chugh appointed as central observers in Arunachal Pradesh

Date:

The BJP has appointed party leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Tarun Chugh as central observers for the election of the legislature party leader in Arunachal Pradesh.

Last week, the National People’s Party (NPP) had announced that it would support the BJP government in the state.

NPP’s Arunachal Pradesh unit president Thangwang Wangam said the party has accepted the mandate of the people in the recently held state assembly elections.

Wangam said the NPP led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, which is an ally of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), will support the Khandu government.

“We accept the mandate given by the people,” PTI quoted Wangham as saying. He assured of his party’s commitment to keep alive the aspirations of the people in the state.

It is important to note that the ruling BJP secured a majority figure of 42 seats out of 60 assembly seats in the recently held state elections. The ruling saffron party gained an edge over the opposition as it won 10 out of 60 seats in the state unopposed. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have already won their seats.

The ruling BJP had won 46 seats in the 60-member Assembly, while the NPP had won five, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) three, People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) two, Congress one seat and independent candidates won three seats.

The BJP also won both the Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh, where elections were held simultaneously with the Assembly elections in the state on April 19.

Apart from this, Kiren Rijiju, who was a four-time Lok Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh, has been made the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in the third term of the Modi government. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said today that he will make every effort to take everyone along for the smooth functioning of the Parliament and said that there is no need to belittle each other on the basis of numbers.

He appealed to all political parties to contribute in maintaining the dignity of Parliament.
