Does the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have any Plan B in case it does not cross the majority mark in the Lok Sabha elections 2024? Well, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has the answer.
In an interview with news agency ANI, Shah said, “Plan B needs to be made only when the chances of Plan A being successful are less than 60 percent.”
In the 543-member Lok Sabha, a party or coalition must win a majority of at least 272 seats (more than 50% of the 543) to remain in power at the Centre. The BJP won 303 seats in 2019, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is led by the BJP, won 353 seats.

“I am confident that Prime Minister Modi will come to power with an overwhelming majority,” Shah said in an interview. Most surveys have predicted an easy victory for the ruling party in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Shah has been predicting a massive majority for the BJP in several interviews given amid the election season. He even predicted a ‘big victory’ for the saffron party in the southern states apart from Karnataka, where it has struggled to make inroads.
“We are heading towards a big victory in the four southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu,” Shah said in a recent interview with NDTV.

The fate of 379 constituencies spread across 23 states and union territories will now be decided when the fourth phase of voting begins on May 13. Voting for the remaining three phases will be held on May 20, May 25 and June 1. Counting of votes will take place on June 4 for all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is seeking a record third term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has set a target of winning 400 seats in this election. The ruling coalition is being challenged by the Congress-led opposition parties under the banner of India Bloc.
