LOS ANGELES — Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose are now divorced.
On Monday, a judge in Williamson County, Tennessee, decided to end their seven-month marriage, three months after Cyrus filed for divorce.
Cyrus, 62, cited irreconcilable differences and “improper marital conduct” when he filed for divorce from Johanna Rose Hodges, 36.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Cyrus’ attorneys, Rose Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo & Garrett, said she and Hodges reached a settlement Friday, adding that Cyrus is “relieved to put this nightmare behind us.”
“I am so relieved … and thankful to be able to breathe a sigh of relief today,” Cyrus said in a statement. “It’s unfortunate … it happened this way.”
“It was an affair of the heart. Love is blind… that’s for sure. BRC,” his statement concluded.
Cyrus’ lawyers claimed in their statement that Hodges had legally changed her last name to Cyrus prior to the mediation, which they say Cyrus feels “reinforces his claim that his ex-wife’s sole motivation for marrying him was to obtain his last name.”
Hodges’ attorneys did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Court documents show that neither party will pay spousal support, and much of the division of assets is based on ownership prior to the marriage.
At the time of the initial application filed in May, Cyrus was seeking an annulment of the marriage due to fraud on Hodges’ part, stating in the application that he would not have married Hodges if he had known about the alleged fraud. The application did not provide any further details about the alleged improper conduct or fraud, but stated that each should have the right to keep their separate property.
After marrying in October 2023, the musicians lived in Tennessee and released several songs together. According to court documents, Cyrus will transfer ownership, master rights and copyright interests, as well as royalties, to Hodges for the music and intellectual property they created together before and during their marriage.
Cyrus has been married twice before, most notably to Tish Cyrus, with whom he has five children, including musician and actress Miley Cyrus. They divorced in 2022 after nearly three decades together. They had previously canceled divorce proceedings in 2010 and 2013.
