Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday held a meeting with both the Deputy Chief Ministers, ministers of concerned departments, senior government officials of all concerned departments and prepared an action plan to achieve the target in the next one year in mission mode.

Under the Good Governance Programme 2020-25, Kumar had set a target of providing 10 lakh government jobs and 10 lakh jobs under Saat Nischay-2, which was implemented from December 15, 2020. A release issued by the CM Secretariat claimed, “So far, 5.16 lakh people have been given government jobs.”

Providing employment has become an election issue in Bihar and it was also a big issue during the Lok Sabha elections. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav and the Grand Alliance had claimed that when he was the deputy CM of Bihar for 17 months, he had provided 5 lakh jobs.

“During our 17-month long stay in power, we have given five lakh jobs while our target is to give 10 lakh government jobs. We will not sit quiet until we do that,” he told media persons last week.

The government release claimed that requisitions for 2.11 lakh new appointments have been sent to various commissions responsible for appointments. “Further, requisitions for 2.34 lakh vacancies will be sent to various commissions in the next one month. Also, it is estimated that there will be 72000 more vacancies for appointment in the coming year, for which requisitions will be sent next year,” the release said.

Against the target of providing 10 lakh government jobs set by the government under Saat Nishchay-2, more than 12 lakh people will be given government jobs by the year 2024-25.

NDA leaders admit that employment is going to be one of the main issues during the assembly elections and leaders of the alliance say that there will be a rain of jobs in Bihar in the coming few months as the state government will issue advertisements to fill all the vacant posts in various departments. This will also create a healthy competition between the departments and ministers of the BJP and the JD(U), a top NDA functionary said.
