Nighttime skin care is very important to maintain healthy skin. Our body repairs and heals itself during sleep. So night is the best time to carefully nourish your skin. However, even with the best intentions, certain habits can negatively impact your beauty goals. Let’s take a look at some common bedtime mistakes that you should avoid
1. Not removing makeup
One of the biggest mistakes is falling asleep with makeup on. Makeup, along with environmental pollution, dirt, oil and sweat from the day, can clog pores and cause acne. Removing makeup with a cleanser before going to bed ensures that your pores are open and your skin can breathe and repair itself overnight.
2. Using harsh cleansers
Harsh face washes or scrubs can strip your skin of its natural moisture leaving it sensitive and irritated. Regular use of harsh cleansers can disrupt the skin barrier leaving the skin vulnerable to sun damage and premature ageing. It is advisable to use a gentle and hydrating cleanser that maintains your skin’s pH balance and removes makeup and dirt effectively.
3. Neglecting moisturizer
Not applying a moisturizer at night can be a mistake. Without proper hydration, skin can become dry and age faster. For those with very oily skin, a light-weight moisturizer is recommended. It is important to choose the right ingredients as hydrating agents depending on your skin type (oily, dry or combination). Products containing antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and peptides can also repair skin damage in addition to their excellent hydration properties.
4. Not cleaning pillow covers
Pillow covers become a breeding ground for oil, dead skin cells and bacteria that get transferred to your face at night and cause acne. People with acne and oily skin should change their pillow covers at least twice a week.
5. Do not drink water
Drinking a glass of water before bedtime is very important to maintain the hydration levels of your skin. Dehydrated skin not only looks dull but also shows fine lines and signs of ageing.
6. Forgetting your lips
Lips are often forgotten in your bedtime skin care routine. In fact, they are more susceptible to dryness and damage than the rest of your skin. To keep your lips soft and supple, apply a hydrating lip balm at night.
