A circular issued by Assam Government Changes in timings of all government and private schools have been announced in Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Kamrup and other districts from Saturday, September 21. This decision has been taken in view of the intense heat prevailing in the district.
Order signed by the School Inspector cum District Elementary Education Officer, Dibrugarhsaid schools should follow the guidelines outlined “to deal with the adverse effects of the heatwave until further notice”.
“All the Principals/Headmasters/Headmistresses of Private/Government/Kendriya Schools of Dibrugarh district affiliated to AHSEC/SEBA/ICSE/CBSE are hereby informed for general information that due to the ongoing intense heat wave in Dibrugarh district, the schools in consultation with the District Commissioner, Dibrugarh are to follow the following guidelines to deal with the ill-effects of intense heat till further notice,” it said. What did the order say?
1. School timings can start early and end accordingly. Classes can begin as early as 8 am.
2. School assemblies can be held inside the classroom and its duration can be reduced
3. Students may be advised not to wear waistcoat or tie and if they feel uncomfortable in shoes, they may wear sandals.
4. Schools should ensure that all fans are operational and all classrooms have proper ventilation. Alternate power backup should be arranged in case of power cuts.
School timings in Kamrup and other districts

Assam CM shared the order Which said: “The DEEO (in-charge) cum District Mission Coordinator SSA, Kamrup Metro in consultation with the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro has informed all the Principals/Headmasters/Headteachers of private/state government/central government schools functioning under Kamrup Metro district that due to the ongoing severe heat wave in the district, the following guidelines should be strictly followed by the schools to avoid the ill effects of heatwave till further notice.”
1. School timings may start at 7.30 am and end at 12.30 pm or earlier
2. Heads of all institutions should ensure that morning assemblies are held inside the classrooms.
3. The school should ensure that students drink enough water and adequate drinking water facilities are ensured inside the school.
4. Students are advised not to wear waistcoats or ties.
5. Schools should ensure that all fans are operational and all classrooms have proper ventilation. Alternate power backup should be arranged in case of power cuts.
Meanwhile, the District Commissioner, SonitpurAssam Education Minister said, “Due to the prevailing intense heat and in view of ensuring the safety and well-being of the students, the school timings of all government, parochial and private schools under Sonitpur district have been extended and rescheduled with immediate effect.”
