Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday handed over appointment letters to 385 youth in the health and education sectors and claimed that the government has already fulfilled its election promise.
Speaking at an official function, Sarma said that with these new appointments, a total of 125,030 people have been given government jobs since he took charge in May 2021.
“Our government fulfilled its election promise of providing one lakh jobs long ago. No other government in the history of Assam has created so many jobs in such a transparent and efficient manner,” he said.
The BJP had promised one lakh government jobs annually during the 2021 assembly election campaign, but later clarified that the figure is for the entire five-year tenure.
The Chief Minister said that the process of filling about 35,000 additional posts is underway and the total number of recruitments is expected to be more than 150,000 by May 2025.
“In these three years, the maximum recruitments took place in health, education and police,” he said.
Of the 385 new recruits, 284 got appointment letters in the Education Department, while 101 got appointment in the Health and Family Welfare Department.
