Assam Chief Minister calls Congress manifesto ‘misleading’: ‘Less for India, more for India…’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the manifesto released by the Congress for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 is “confusing”. He said the Congress manifesto “has no value”.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “After seeing the manifesto, people will get confused whether it is the manifesto for the elections to be held in India or for Pakistan… It seems that this manifesto is more for Pakistan and not for India. Less…” .

Congress released Lok Sabha manifesto

Congress released its Lok Sabha manifesto on 5 April. The manifesto, called ‘Nyaya Patra’, focuses on the ‘Five Nyaya’ or five pillars of justice, which include ‘Youth Justice’, ‘Women’s Justice’, ‘Farmers’ Justice’, ‘Workers Justice’. ‘Justice’ and ‘Participatory Justice’.

The oldest party promised the country’s minorities freedom of choice of dress, food, language and reforms in personal laws. It made several promises including job reservation for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), a law for the LGBTQIA+ community, Mahalaxmi Yojana, nationwide caste census.

BJP calls Congress manifesto a ‘bundle of lies’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called the Congress manifesto a “pack of lies”. Addressing a rally in Ajmer, Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the manifesto shows that the thinking of the Congress is similar to the thinking of the Muslim League before independence.

Before the Lok Sabha elections 2024, a war of words has started between the two political parties. Voting will begin on April 19 and counting of votes for all 543 Lok Sabha seats across the country is scheduled to take place on June 4.

However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi assured the public at a Telangana rally on Saturday that the party’s manifesto can “change India”. They said, “It’s not ours [Congress] Manifesto, but of the soul of India… We have made this manifesto by listening to your heart and soul. Read this manifesto carefully…”

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 303 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, while Congress won 52 seats.
