Inviting to experience the first ray of sun for kiwi picking in the easternmost corner of India, the Arunachal Pradesh government is rolling out the red carpet for both domestic and international tourists visiting the picturesque north-eastern state. On the initiative of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh has unveiled a tourism policy with a focus on film (shooting), farming (experience), wine (making and testing) and eco-tourism.
Khandu said, “Tourism means a lot to us and our people. With its outstanding natural beauty, diverse tribal cultures and abundant wildlife, our state attracts tourists from all over the world in search of unique and authentic experiences. ” The Chief Minister said that while promoting the tourism sector, a new tourism policy has been launched with a focus on films, farms, wine and eco tourism. “Home stay policy has been introduced to ensure an overall experience to our guests,” he said.

Tourists are invited to a program titled ‘Kiwi Ownership and Kiwi Fruit Picking Experience’ at Ziro in Lower Subansiri District. Under this initiative, tourists are given a unique opportunity to connect more with nature and agriculture through a comprehensive, practical approach. Participants have the option to own a kiwi plant through an ‘annual timeshare programme’, which is designed to create a bond between the plant owner and the farming process while supporting local farmers.
“I commend the team behind this innovative initiative, which supports sustainable farming practices by promoting local cultivation of kiwifruit and encouraging community participation,” Khandu said. An outdoor music festival named Zero Festival is an added attraction of this place. Furthermore, the Chief Minister himself, through his ‘X’ handle, invited tourists to visit Dong, the easternmost corner of India, where the sun rises first.

The Chief Minister recently praised the Indian Army for organizing a bike ride through the majestic landscapes and ‘vibrant villages’ of Arunachal Pradesh, representing a blend of “culture, courage and camaraderie”. Don’t miss the religious place Parshuram Kund on the way and see how much better the roads have become.” Another special project is being launched in Arunachal Pradesh to promote sustainable tourism after protecting the heritage and traditions of the Monpa tribes living in Tawang and West Kameng areas.
The project aims to protect and conserve the natural habitat and rich biodiversity of Tawang and West Kameng through community-based tourism initiatives to provide alternative livelihood opportunities to the local people. The Monpa live in the Tawang and West Kameng regions, bordering Bhutan to the west and Tibet to the north.
The Monpa practice Buddhism and are known for making handmade paper by processing the pulp of the local Shogshog tree and creating natural darts. The Monpas have historically engaged in trade with Tibet and Bhutan. The community trades maize, millet and vegetables in exchange for yak milk products, such as butter and cheese.
