“This is my first sculpture,” said the Chennai-based artist, who is exhibiting his first work alongside some of the stalwarts in the field of modern sculpture art like Vibhor Sogani and Neeraj Gupta. “Actually, I worked closely with Gupta to create this work,” shares Laxman. But, he did not let his ideas color his guide, as can be seen in the earlier treatment of the material – pink Makrana marble sourced from Rajasthan – which also stands out at such an early stage of experimentation in Lakshmana’s sculpture. .

It is interesting to see how this artist blends the philosophy behind his paintings with the 3D medium. Pointing towards two canvases that are part of the show, Lakshman explains, “My paintings are inspired by Zen Buddhism… I started painting during the Covid lockdown, and now it has taken me almost a year to complete a canvas. Takes 45 minutes to 10 days. , But, sculpture is a relatively new and challenging medium. It took me four months to complete my first work in this medium, including its concept and design. Now, I intend to pursue this medium continuously and passionately.
