The recruitment rally in Poonch to fill 307 vacancies for Soldier General Duty and 45 vacancies for Clerks and Tradesmen in the Territorial Army began on November 8 at the Advance Landing Ground in Surankote, officials said.

The rally was open to candidates from 31 tehsils of Jammu division including Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi and Jammu districts for Soldier General Duty, while candidates from across Jammu and Kashmir were eligible to apply for Clerk and Tradesman posts.

Expressing satisfaction over the response of the youth, an Army Recruiting Office official said, “More than 26,000 enthusiastic candidates from across the region participated in the selection process during the 10-day rally, demonstrating their physical and mental readiness to serve the country.” “Participated.” ,

He said the recruitment drive was organized with the aim of providing employment opportunities and encouraging the youth to join the armed forces.

The official said the candidates had to undergo various physical tests, which included a 1.6 km run, chin-ups and other endurance exercises, followed by medical tests and documentation checks.

He said around 4,000 candidates have passed the ground test and will participate in the medical examination.

Locals appreciated the Army for conducting the recruitment drive in the border district.

Syed Imtiaz Kazmi, a prominent citizen of Surankote, said, “This is an important step towards eliminating unemployment in the border areas and instilling a sense of pride and patriotism among the youth.”

Officials said the event was organized strictly following safety protocols, ensuring that the large gathering was managed smoothly.

A defense spokesperson said the Army is also conducting a 10-day recruitment rally for Soldier General Duty and Soldier Clerks and Tradesmen at Dugga for residents of Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts from November 11.
