‘I started therapy and went to a few therapists’

The actor revealed that he sought therapy to deal with the mental problems he faced after his recent films did not perform well at the box office, adding that ‘being a fat child made him Caused a lot of mental trauma.

Arjun said, “I started taking therapy… the depression and the therapy part started last year… I didn’t know if I was depressed or not, I just knew something wasn’t working… A film was made on my life, and now suddenly I was looking at other people’s work and thinking to myself, ‘Will I be able to do it or will I get a chance?’ I’ve never been a bitter or negative person, but it started building up in me very badly… I started therapy and went to a few therapists, which didn’t help. I found someone who actually allowed me to speak. At the time he diagnosed me with mild depression, which is very circumstantial.”

Mild depression may go unnoticed; Don’t miss these warning symptoms. Symptoms of mild depression are similar to those of clinical depression, but milder in nature: ranging from difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep to sadness or apathy.

‘Your body is in flight-or-fight mode’

In the same interview, Arjun also revealed how he has ‘always’ faced some physical and health struggle. Arjun said, “I haven’t always talked about it openly, but I also have Hashimoto’s disease (autoimmune disease that damages the thyroid gland), which is an enlargement of the thyroid. It’s almost like I can take off and gain weight because the body is in crisis…your body is in flight-or-fight mode. That (Hashimoto’s disease) happened when I was 30 and I resisted it and I said, ‘No, it can’t be happening.’ My mother (Mona Shourie Kapoor) had it and my sister (Anshula Kapoor) also had it… If I look back today, I can see myself and my body changing during my films am. Now that is 2015-16, that is seven-eight years when I am suffering that physical trauma and then at the same time my films are not doing,” he said.
