New Delhi. Apple has launched its new iPhone 16E, which is the newest and affordable model of the iPhone 16 series. Interestingly, it is actually the iPhone SE 4, which has been introduced with a new name. With this change, Apple has completely eliminated the “Special Edition” (SE) branding from 2016. Meaning, iPhone SE 3 (2022) has now become the last model of this lineup. However, despite changing the name, this phone retains the old identity of SE – a strong performance at a price. Its initial price in India has been kept ₹ 59,900 (128GB), while for 512GB variants, ₹ 89,900 will have to be spent.
This time Apple has made many major changes in the SE model. The biggest change is to get rid of the old design of iPhone 8. Now it has a modern look like iPhone 14, which includes face ID support, large OLED screen and USB Type-C port. The previous SE model had a lightning port, which has now been closed under the new laws of the European Union. Because of this, SE 3 had to be removed from the European market, but now the iPhone 16E is completely in line with the new rules and will be available globally.

Three storage variants of iPhone 16E will come in the market and accordingly they will also have a price.
128GB – ₹ 59,900
256GB – ₹ 69,900
512GB – ₹ 89,900
Its pre-booking will start from February 21, and from 28 February this phone will be available for retail stores and online sale.
Specifications and features
The iPhone 16E has a 6.1-inch OLED display, which offers 1.5K resolution and 800 knots brightness. However, its refresh rate has been kept at 60Hz, which may disappoint a bit. Talking about the design, it has a wide notch of iPhone 14 and supports the face ID, which makes it look completely different from the old SE series.
Apple’s A18 processor has been given in the phone, which enables it to give tremendous performance. RAM has been increased from 3GB to 8GB, so that it will now support AI-related new technology like Apple Intelligence. The first SE model had a 64GB base variant, but will now start with 128GB storage, which will go up to 512GB.
Build quality and design
The iPhone 16E has a strong body frame of glass and aluminum and is also an IP68 dust and water resistant. This two classic colors – Black and White – will come with matte finish. The phone will work on iOS 18.3 and it will continue to get software updates for many years to come.
iPhone 16E: Is it worth upgrading or not?
If you are still using iPhone SE 3 or any old iPhone and want a budget-friendly upgrade, the iPhone 16e can prove to be a great option. This is Apple’s most economical offering, which now includes premium features, but the price is still less than the mainstream iPhones. However, if you want high-refresh rate screen and better camera, then you should increase the iPhone 16 or Pro model by increasing a little more budget.
