A 17-year-old girl died after she was allegedly set on fire by a 21-year-old man in Andhra Pradesh’s Nandyala district on Monday.
Accused Raghavendra also suffered 70 percent burns in the incident. He allegedly set the girl on fire because she rejected his advances.
On Sunday night, Raghavendra went to the girl’s grandparents’ house and knocked on the door of the room where she was sleeping.
As soon as she opened the door, he came inside and closed the door from inside.
He then allegedly poured petrol on it and set it on fire.
He also allegedly gagged her so that she could not scream for help.
He was reportedly in a relationship with the girl for the last three years.
“She was living with her grandparents in Nandikotkuru. There was some movement around 4 in the morning and he (Raghavendra) came out in a severely burnt condition. By then the girl was completely burnt.
The police have arrested the person.
Multiple teams to investigate the case
According to the police, Raghavendra claimed that the fire was an “accident”.
Forensic teams have collected samples from the spot.
Police are investigating the case from all possible aspects.
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha asked the police to form multiple teams to investigate the matter.
He also spoke to Nandyal Police Chief Adhiraj Singh Rana over phone and took stock of the investigation.
Gujarat: Man arrested for sending obscene messages to girl
In another incident, Maharashtra Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Gujarat for sending obscene messages to a teenage girl from Mira Road area of Thane district.
An FIR was lodged by the Mira-Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police after the girl found an obscene message on her Instagram account in the last week of November, a police officer said.
The Central Crime Unit of Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar (MBVV) police traced the sender of the message to Ankleshwar in Gujarat.
The police officer said the accused had recently sent the message using her mobile phone after being upset over the cancellation of her engagement due to inappropriate behavior of her brother-in-law.
