Amidst the many educational institutions providing reservation benefits to different categories and specific groups of students, a relevant question arises: What reservation benefits are available in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)?

It is important to note that AMU, with its minority status, does not follow reservation policies based on caste. The state’s reservation policy does not apply to AMU.

Instead, AMU has an internal reservation policy. This policy reserves 50% seats in all courses for students who have studied in AMU-affiliated schools or colleges. Therefore, the benefit of reservation in AMU is not based on SC, ST or OBC status but on prior education in affiliated institutions.

How are admissions conducted?

For undergraduate admission into AMU, candidates have to appear for the CUET exam. Admission is given on the basis of CUET score. For admission to BA, BSc, BCom and other undergraduate programmes, a minimum score of 50% serves as the qualifying cut-off. For BSc Hons, the admission rank for male students should be between 1 to 310, while for female students, it is between 311 to 620. However, some courses have separate entrance examinations, and admission is granted to successful candidates.

Reservation in MBBS admission

Candidates who have completed 10th and 12th from Aligarh Muslim University have more chances of securing MBBS seat. Up to 50 per cent of MBBS seats in the medical college of the university are reserved for students who have passed class 10th and 12th from AMU affiliated schools and colleges.

Out of total 150 MBBS seats, only 75 are available for external students. In this, 5% seats are reserved for persons with disabilities, and another 5% seats are reserved for PWD and outstanding sportsperson category candidates.
