Officials said that in view of the heat, the Chhattisgarh government has extended the summer vacation for students of all schools in the state till June 25.

He said that the state school education department issued an order in this regard late Sunday evening.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the capital Raipur and Rajnandgaon on Sunday was around 39 degrees Celsius.

The state government had earlier declared summer vacations in all schools from April 22 to June 15.

The order said, “Keeping in view the adverse effect on the health of students due to the current intense heat in the state, the state government has extended the summer vacation till June 25.”

He said that schools will reopen from June 26.

The Meteorological Centre said that on Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.3 degrees Celsius in Raipur (Lalpur station), 39 degrees Celsius in Rajnandgaon, 40.2 degrees Celsius in Pendra, 30.8 degrees Celsius in Bilaspur, 32.6 degrees Celsius in Ambikapur and 35.2 degrees Celsius in Jagdalpur.
