On becoming a mother
Calling Rhea “mischievous and talkative”, Alia said her daughter is really smart, adding that she often has her moments of shyness. After becoming a mother, Alia admitted that the real challenge has been managing acting with motherhood.
“How do I juggle both jobs and do them well and also find a way to make time for myself, which I haven’t been able to do. I’ll be very frank right now – there’s no such thing as time for me. I haven’t even been able to attend a therapy session for the last two months,” Alia said, adding that she has no qualms about admitting that becoming a mother has changed her.
In this candid interview, Alia also sheds light on the nuances of parenting and emphasises that it means being present for your kids, and not controlling their lives.
As a mother, Alia experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, saying, “Your soul is kind of fulfilled, but you are always filled with fear and nervousness because you want to do it right and do it well.”
Aaliyah gained wisdom from her parents’ advice, “Children come through you. They are yours, you are the catalyst, you are a source for their life, but their life is not yours. Their life is theirs, and you just need to give them the tools to deal with their life.”
